MOSFETs Characterization in the Low Power Range Wednesday, March 25, 2020
Introduction The Semiconductor Industry is always searching for new special materials, dielectric solutions, and new device geometries for scaling down the device size further and further. Lateral and vertical heterostructures of 2D materials, for instance, have led to new revolutionary tiny and low-power electronics. A 4200A Electrical Parameter Characterization system controlled from his …
RSA7100B Wideband RF Signal Analyzer and Streaming Recorder Targets Challenging Real-World Test Scenarios Sunday, March 8, 2020
The new RSA7100B wideband RF signal analyzer and streaming recorder is now available, giving engineers a powerful solution for evaluating and characterizing wideband communications, radar and electronic warfare systems. This latest addition to the Tektronix family of real-time spectrum analyzers offers impressive specs and capabilities, including more than 2.5 hours of streaming RF storage at 800 …
How to Use Fast Frame on a Realtime Spectrum Analyzer Thursday, March 5, 2020
Fast Frame is a segmented memory acquisition mode designed to save memory when acquiring a large number of low duty cycle events. It is available on RSA5000, RSA6000 and RSA7000 Series realtime spectrum analyzers. A common application is with RADAR signals. RADAR signals are typically very low duty cycle – often 1% duty cycle or less. When acquiring a large number of consecutive pulses for …
A 25-Year Legacy of Oscilloscope Probe Innovation Tuesday, March 3, 2020
At Tektronix, we know one of the best ways to help our customers innovate is to innovate ourselves. The infographic below explores our legacy of developing cutting-edge probe technology in the last 25 years. From 1994 – 2004, we were awarded a number of patents for improving low voltage single-ended, low voltage differential, and current probes. Between 2004 and 2014, we also focused our research …
They’re Back: New Software for Keithley SMUs Emulates Classic Tektronix Curve Tracers Saturday, December 7, 2019

Tektronix introduced the industry’s first curve tracer in 1955 to display characteristic curves for vacuum tubes, followed over the years by models for testing transistors, diodes and other solid-state devices. Tektronix curve tracers such as the 576 (below) and 370A/370B went on to broad industry acceptance until production eventually stopped in the mid-eighties. Approximating a power supply and an oscilloscope packaged in the same box, curve tracers source voltage while plotting voltage vs. current.

Anywhere, Anytime: Offline, Online and Multi-Oscilloscope Analysis
Anywhere, Anytime: Offline, Online and Multi-Oscilloscope Analysis Tuesday, November 5, 2019
Over the last decade, the ability to access an oscilloscope and its data remotely has become vital to completing development projects. Globalized teams including geographically dispersed design engineers, manufacturing engineers and, at times, suppliers continue to increase. For these teams to execute efficiently and resolve issues quickly, the ability to transfer and view the same data can be a …
New SMUs Overcome Tough Test Challenges Involving Low-Current, Capacitive Setups Friday, November 1, 2019
Test setups that involve the use of long cables or capacitive chucks can increase capacitance at the output of the test instrument, resulting in inaccurate or unstable measurements. This is particularly true for very sensitive low-current measurements while sourcing or sweeping a DC voltage. To address these challenges, Keithley, a Tektronix Company, has introduced two new source measure unit (SMU …
Tektronix 3 Series MDO vs. Keysight Technologies DSO/MSO-X 3000T How Different Measurement Data Delivers Different Results Saturday, October 19, 2019
Automated waveform measurements are important analysis tools, but the results of these measurements are only as good as the data used to calculate them. The Tektronix 3 Series MDO calculates measurements using the actual acquisition data. And while this can involve a large number of calculations, it provides a large and consistent dataset on which to base measurements. The Keysight X3000T uses a …
Automotive Game Changer? ECU Changes on the Horizon Friday, October 11, 2019
Automobile of the future EE Times recently published an article, VW All-In For a Change: Will Bring HW + SW Design In-House, discussing Volkswagen’s ambitious direction for electronic control units (ECUs). In the article, Volkswagen indicated it plans to reduce the number of ECUs in an automobile from approximately 70 to three and that it plans to develop almost all of the needed software …
